The Belinda Dress

I am so excited to partner with my friend Michelle Kaufman of Photography By Michelle to test out a little product photography. The first two pictures below are her work.

I know Spring is upon most of us and most of you are looking forward to sunshine and flipflops, but as a California girl myself who never really got a winter this year, I wouldn’t mind some colder days to cozy up in something like this Belinda Dress from Go To Patterns (BTW, Andrea Pannell, in case you’re reading, every time my daughter wears this dress, everyone wishes this pattern came in adult sizes!!)

The Belinda Dress is a bubble dress pattern designed for knits and works wonderfully with this sweatshirt knit I got from With no closures, it goes together quickly and can be made with or without the front pocket. You could even make it with a knit on top and a woven on the bottom.

The puff sleeves are adorable and my daughter LOVES the huge pocket – she proudly announces it’s presence to everyone who comments on her dress.

If you have not worked with knits before, I think a sweatshirt knit is great starting point. They not super stretchy and the thicker texture makes it easier to work with, as opposed to a slippery jersey knit. Also it is so rewarding to work with ribbing. Just stretch it to fit the length of the fabric it’s being applied to, sew, turn up and top stitch and you have a very easy, yet professional finish.
